Now this is a knife!
Drop Point/Double D/Orange - I'm a sailor and never without my knife. its a utility thing but most importantly a safety thing. This blade will slide right through any line - usually without even needing to 'saw'. Just press. Especially on a line under tension. The handle is great wet or dry - big and comfortable in the hand. And I like orange! Nice SECURE sheath too. One of my best friends on the water and elsewhere.

Really Impressive
Bought this knife from my son because he was selling, you know dad's have to do that. I didn't think it was going to be any better than any other hunting knife I've used. Wow was I wrong, used it to field dress an Elk, had one of my buddies with me, neither of us could believe the knife would stay sharp, but it did. Even used it to cut tree saplings out of the way. Now looking at buying more for gifts, my buddy is buying one immediately.

I usually dont do reviews but after using my new cutco knife I felt I should take the time.
I recently had the pleasure to assist on an Arkansas Elk hunt. where we were fortunate enough to harvest a very nice 7x7 Bull. The tag holder was told he would need at least 4 good knives if he harvested an animal and should be prepared to use them all. I am writting this because we completly caped and quartered this Bull with my new Cutco 5718 drop point with the "DD" blade. We all are very impressed with how this knife performed. Although we were prepared to use other knives if needed, there was no need. and best of all it is as sharp now as when I started. And no I didnt get paid to say this. I just know a good product when I use one. thanks again for a great product.

They don't get any better than these !
I was first introduced to Cutco over 20 years ago by a friend whose dad had owned one for quite some time. I was quite skeptical when he said his dad had never had to sharpen it after field dressing numerous elk and deer. But I took a chance and ordered one of the Double-D Drop Point blades. I have owned numerous hunting knives over the years including custom blades costing over $200 and have yet to find anything that even comes close to these remarkable knives. Since that original order I have purchased, if memory serves me right, over 15 more of these knives as gifts to kids, grandkids, and friends (not to mention another one for myself !) I have field dressed, skinned, and processed 6 elk, an unknown number of mule deer, fur bearing animals, etc. and have only sent it back for sharpening once. My wife and I even use it for cutting most everything from cloth and paper to leather products. Phenomenal product !! I also own the scissors, paring knives, both carving knives and am preparing to place an order for the table knives and vegetable peeler. Needless to say I am a very satisfied, tried and true Cutco customer !

This knife was given to me as I was not a fan of the drop point style or the double d serated edge. I've trapped and hunted for over 35 years and have never come across a knife as good as this! I skinned 3 moose 2 deer 4 bears before I needed to sharpen it! I've just sent my drop point double d edged knife in for it's 2nd sharpening in 11 years. Its not easy to change a mans mind on what works and cutco has a winner here!

Best Hunting Knife - Period
Let me preface this by saying that I rarely - if ever - do online reviews for products. I'm just not that impressed or driven by any particular product to take the time. With that said, I felt compelled to write a review for the Cutco Drop Point Hunting Knife. It was given to me by a hunting buddy (he had one and was so impressed he shared the wealth). I have used this knife in the field for years and it will not weaken or die. I have gutted numerous deer with it and it zips through the sternum like butter. I have used it to pry open the cabin lock, cut limbs from my shooting lane, etc. and it is as strong now as the first time I used it. It's simply perfect - from its simple looks to length of the blade to the weight and grippy rubber feel in your hand - plus it has a handy hole for a wrist lanyard. I have tried a plethora of knives for the field and none have compared to the Cutco. And good luck getting a knife of this quality elsewhere for the price. Most hunting knives wind up costing more because of brand marketing. And why would you pay an additional $20-$50 for a camo effect? You drop that knife in the woods and it's gone. This little gem will market itself by word of mouth. I guarantee you, try this knife and you'll never buy another field knife again. Thank you Cutco!

Not worth the money
I was very impressed with this knife when I first received it. After a few uses of gutting/skinning deer the knife has gotten pretty dull and I have even broke one of the double edged teeth off. I am not impressed with this knife and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I also have two of the lock back pocket knives. One is a regular blade and the other is a double edged blade, I feel the same way about these knives as well. I know it's got a lifetime guarantee and I could spend the money to send it in but honestly I would rather spend the money on a better knife. I love the kitchen knives though, they are great but their outdoor knives stink.

Best knife, u don't think learn how to use
I have owned this knife for 9 years and had it sharpened 2 times. Throughout this I have gutted and skinned about 35-40 deer. The knife does need sharpened after about 10-12 deer but is far superior to any other knife I have owned(which is many). If you do not think this is a great knife then you either need to learn how to properly clean game or buy another knife and you will be using this one after your first use of a competitors.
I use this product for:gutting, skinning, boning

Great purchase
I can't say enough good things about the Drop Point Hunting knife. Super sharp, the handle is comfortable. Just an all round good knife to have. I've skint serveral deer with the greatest of ease. I will have one of these Drop Point Hunting Knives on all of my hunting trips as long as they continue to make them. Although after reading other reviews, I can't understand why guys use the Double D edge to skin their game instead of the straight edge. The straight edge is so sharp and make smooth cuts. Great great product Cutco!!!

The only knife you will ever need
This knife is nothing short of amazing! I have owned it for about 12 years now and it has always surprised me and any others who have seen it put to work. I have literally used it to cut racks of ribs from deer just to show off. You have a quality product and I plan to add them to my kitchen.
I use this product for:hunting, butchering

The first year I hunted moose I was told this was the knife I needed. Not knowing why I purchased one for the next hunting year.......since we didn't harvest a moose that year. The next year, I had one and our hunting camp harvested 6 moose and my DD bladed knife lasted skinning 4 moose (with 3 others helping with their Cutco knives) before it became difficult to skin. I was still able to skin moose after the 4 moose, but it just wasn't as easy.
To top it off, those using other brands of knives like Spyderco, K-Bar, Gerber and such had to keep putting an edge on their knives during the skinning of the 1st moose.
The DD blade did last longer than the straight edge (yes I have multiple knives now) but it is still better than other straight edged blades out there. The only thing with the straight edge is that you are able to sharpen them easier than the DD blade (if needed) but on a normal hunt, that isn't needed with the DD styled blade!

I first used Cutco when my newlywed wife and I bought a set of kitchen knives, a deluxe carving set, and a set of kitchen utensils in 1967 from a fellow GI trying to make some extra money. We couldn't believe what we paid for those on our E3 salary. My newlywed and I still are married and we still have and use every piece of the original. I bought sets for both my kids. I bought a Drop Point DD for game. I've skinned cleaned and butchered anumber of white-tail; but the crowning glory was skinning, cleaning and butchering wild hogs. Its incredible the job the knife does compared to others I have, and I have some good knives. I should probably send the DD in to have the blade touched up a little, but then hog hunting is year round in Texas and I'd be without it.

Drop Point Double D Orange Knife
I received this knife from my son as a present and didn't expect it to out perform my precious buck knife. Wow was I wrong. I have had this knife for more than twenty years. I have field dressed more than 15 white tails with this knife. The point got broken by a novice hunter who had borrowed it. I continued to dress deer with it for the last 4 years with a broken point and it is still sharp. I asked my son for another one for christmas and he told me there ws a forever warranty on it and to contact the company. I sent in a request for what I need to do about the broken point. Now I must admit I don't expect a new knife but we will see. I will buy another one if I have to as I will NEVER HUNT WITHOUT THE CUTCO KNIFE

Points Bent
I got this knife for Christmas and I was so happy to use it out moose hunting. Well I got to clean the moose and I try and skin the moose. The points kept on catching on the hide and pulling it rather then cutting it.
I then took it to a cutco rep and they said the points are all bent and that could have been the reason why it did not work.
I did not know they made a strait blade one so I asked since this one has to be repaired can I just replace it with this ones since it is the same price. They said I would have to send in the form with a $6 check and then maybe get the knife back that I wanted but there is no guarantee that it will happen.
I e-mailed the company and now it is just a waiting game to see what I get back in the mail.
I will keep everyone posted.

Not as good as thought
I purchased this serrated edge knife and after caping and skinning the one bull, the knife needs sharpening already! Not impressed. We will see how fast the in home sharpening takes.......

I received the DD drop point knife 11 years ago as a gift. Upon first use I was hooked. The knife makes quick work of gutting the deer in the field as well as boning in the garage. The orange handle is easy to see in the leaves and it cleans up well when done. I've had it sharpened once and will do so again this year. This amounts to every 5 years or every 10-12 deer. A word of caution though. Be careful when using it as it doesn't know the difference between deer meat and finger meat. A little pressure goes a long way with this dream tool.

I bought this knife for my husband for Christmas 2009. He just used it for the 1st time 2 weeks ago to skin a moose. It seemed great for the 1st skinning but it now has two dull spots on it and would not go through a 2nd deer. This knife came highly recommened but my husband is not very impressed and is back to using his old knife. The only thing he likes about this knife is that it is orange and was incribed from his kids.
